A couple of years ago I bought and read a book which was a compilation of letters between Abigail and John Adams. I really enjoyed reading letters they certainly never thought would be published in a book. The book divides the letters into subject matters and so it made it easier to find and relate to the contents. Politics, family, government, etc… were all discussed. When I read the letters I got the sense that I was drawn into their thinking process and when I finished the book I felt I knew them both more intimately.

About a year ago I began a simple blog called letters to my brothers with the idea of writing letters to a fictitious brother (I have no brothers, but 5 sisters) about different things on my mind. After two posts I realized it didn’t really serve a purpose.

Fast forward 12 months and you would find me in a discussion with my wife Susan about the “art of letter writing” and it being lost in our culture. Our discussion led to our talking about the need within the body of Christ to be encouraged which then led us to Romans 15:4 “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they
provide we might have hope.” Not long after the idea of re-launching  “Letters to my brothers/sisters” began.

We decided to ask men and women we know who are mature in their faith, love the Lord Jesus and His people, to join us in this “adventure”.  I call it an adventure because we don’t know if this will ever amount to anything. It could become a wonderful resource of encouragement or it could end up being like the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks; nice to find but not all that important.  Our prayer is that it will develop into a resource of great encouragement to all who read it.

Pass this on to your friends.
